"Joel inserted an advertisement in the Chronicle agreeing to pay. Then another letter was sent to his wife staling thai a man would call for the money at Joel's house. When Caiihani called lie was arrested, lie confessed that Winbourne had written the letters and promised Bun half the money if he assisted. Iloth were remanded. Bail was not allowed.
