I The funeral of the late Lieutenant J. 1!. Jja-wsoii. formerly of the Taranaki Militia, took plane on Thursday. The body was borne to the graveside by six of the lessening iciiinanl of those who saw service with him in the .Maori wars - -Colonel .Messenger. Upturns Wilson, J. Black, and John Kelly, Lieutenants !J. C. Da.vies and W. Humphries. The deceased arrived in the district from Edinburgh in the ship Joseph Fletcher in 185:1, and bore his share of Hie troubles of ■pioneering. He came from a very old Scottish family, one of his sisters being Lady lloyd, widow of thei late Sir John Buvil, Lord Provost of Edinburgh. Mr. and Mrs. T. Chattcl'ton will leave England on their return journey to X"W Plymouth at the enil of this month. -Mr. E. 11. Tribe is now on hi, return journey i„ New Plymouth, having left London on 27-th August. Air. George Grillitlis, who has been ill for a couple of week's, was about town again yesterday. H, ; feeves on a holiday I rip to Palmcrstoii on Monday.
