OLYMPIA SKATING RINK.
The Carnival last night was a brilliant success, the seating accommodation befng taxed to the limit. The fancy dresses of the ladies were as unique as tliey were attractive, while the gentlemen's costumes were varied and uncommon. A lightning .sketch artist was in attendance, and was kept busily eugag>d 1 sketching those in fancy costumes, lie programme of sport was well cared out by the manager. The one mile lampionship of Jeff Plymouth was on by.Air. Willis with the greatest oS ise. Mr. Willis s'lraking his opponents If almost from the start, and doing the lite iu fair time, namely, Jmin 7 1-osec. he record time for s kating the mile l Xew Zealand is •imin Usee, the record eilig held by J. Kolwland, of Wclliugon, and put up in the Skating King on. th June, I'JOS. The ladies' pair was won by Jliss icllie Eva, who is an exceptional"}' lever young skater. In the gills' race j diss 1. l'enn was first and -Miss Eva econd. The tan and balloon race was nuexed by Sir. Morsehead. In the footmil match the rink scored 10 and ■atrons nil. The prizes are to be awaidd to-morrow (Saturday) night, when a lew programme of amusements will be lut on. Miss Todd and Millar will give ,heir exhibition of trick and fancy skatng on Saturday. The management wish .o state that owing to some misunderilanding they did not appear last night, mt they will perform on Saturday nig.it> without fail.
