Murdoch McLean, of John McLean and Sons, contractors for the Arthur's Pass tunnel, lias just returned from the works. Everything is going on satisfactorily at tile Otiru end of tlie work. Work at tile otner end bad not yet begun. The tunnel is now ten chains into the rock, and good hard material is met with. The rain has been tcrrilie for days past, but lias in no way interfered wiili the work. There is no trouble of any sort with the men employed, and llrev number about 100, the relations between I them and the linn beiiig of a most cordial character. ends. At present Hie Bealy portion of the work is awaiting the completion of the bridge, which will practically enter the tunnel direct.
