Colonel Warde, giving evidence .a the inquest, bitterly complained that (General Luard's alleged letter (previously cabled) was a fabrication of the press. The actual letter, he said, did not mention deceased', son. it ended: "I thought I had strength enough .to beat up against the horrible imputations of the terrible letters, but I am now satisfied that it is best to join her in the second life at once."
