They had surveyed the proposed Ring road deviation and prepared the plans, giving an average grade of 1 in 10. THE BRIIXJK FI'XU. Messrs. Standish and Cameron, representing the Motukawa road settlers, waited on the Board and stated that it had been decided by the settlers either to rebuild the .Motukawa bridge, with the assistance of the bridge fund, or, failing that assistance being given uy the Board, they would lie compelled to content themselves for some time with repairing the present structure. The settlers could not rate themselves to raise the whole of the money required, but would do their, best.

Mr. Lawrence said that the settlers were not being Breed. Thev had the remedy, as other settle;s had, to raise a loan. There was nothing extra generous in that. '

Mr. Corkill would favor giving assistance if the settlers would decide on a permanent structure. The chairman said iJtat there were other roads and other bridges to be considered. The matter will he further discussed, at the next meeting. FOREMEN'S Rl', PORTS. Foreman Jones reported having metalled portions of the Suffolk road. He complained that he was continually losing sheep which got into the water.—ln the discussion it was pointed out that all over the district there were creeks which had silted up by several feet in the past few years, not necessarily caused by roads or culvert-, but on account ol* the swamp grass holding the silt and twigs. The chairman said that when a culveit backed water on to a property the owner had a claim against the Board for compensation, but only for a certain time, and Mr. Kennedy had allowed that period to elapse.—The matter was referred to the solicitor.
