The set-rotary of the North Taranaki Cricket Asoseiaitiou has received a letter from Air. A. Hardy, Tarauaki's delegate to the New Zealand Cricket Council, notifying his willingness to act again for the Association. He adds: "'There is a prospect of an Australian team coming over, but it must lie a good one if we accept it. It so, "your Association can rely upon a match. The Otago team is going to Auckland for New tear, ami 1 li-arn from the secretary of their Association that they arc desirous of playing a game, in Taranaki on their way. From the above it will be seen that the new crieket lield in the Recivutiou Sports-ground promises to attract some outside cricketers this year, for a very long time New L'lymouth cricket has been kept back by the absence of ; . ' suitable ground, but tlr.it drawback is now removed. The match wicket pro niises to be in first-class trim for this season's play. Practice wickets are now being made in the Recreation Sports-ground, Lotigburn soil being used. This was imported by the members of the New Plymouth* Crieket Club, and by a miscadilation thev got more than they intended, so that instead of three pra.-lice-witketa dotted across the ground at intervals there will be one continuous strip of good soil. It is probable that a rep. practice wicket will be constructed at the end of the field opposite to that used for club wickets. , An experiment is to he tried, we art told, at Western Park, by laying down
a wicket of flay from u deposit in the lloturoa district. Mr. Fitzpatrick, wno laid the wicket on the Tukapa ground, is of opinion that this clay will set very '"l" 'is stated that the Inglewood Club intends laying down a new asphalt wicket for this season's play. The annual meeting of the Noith TarauaJa Cricket Association is to He held next Thursday evening. The Carriiifiton Road Club holds U. annual mooting next week, and it will this year be held in town.
