A representative jneeting of lnut|-'. growers uf Waikumcle and neighborliood was held in the local hall this evening to consider the danger to bo feared from the possible introduction of the fruit lly. Jit was thought thai the business interests of the importers and the ignorance of t'lie pii'blie as tf/ Hie true position might be the cause of 1 ,1 severe blow to an industry of vitajl importance to this country. The following resolution W i\s passed;—'•That this meeting of fruitgrowers strongly protests against any relaxation of the regulations with regard to the importation of Ny-infecU'd fruit, and would urge upon th-e Department to use every possible menus topivvent the introduction of the post, and' further it is considered that the terrible nature of the scourge and the importance of the industry is sullleienl to justify the total prohibition of the importation of fruit ffom lly-hifcfted countries." To remove present ignorance on the matter it was decided to request the Agricultural Department to publish a full I statement of the danger to bo. leaved from the introduction of the lly. I
