EUCHARIST CONGRESS.
PROCESSION 01? TEE HOST. London, September .14. The Procession of the Host was impressive and full of color. No Host or mass vestments appeared, but the prelates were in undress purple cassocks, white robes and purple birreiuis, and surplic-ed chaplains attended them. The Papal Legate wore a scarlet robe with white train, and scarlet skull cap. Immense crowds watched the procession. The Catholic section cheered heartily, and the demeanor of the others was that of quiet curiosity. Tihe real Grand Procession of the Host was held within the Cathedral. Tile Legate gave the Benediction of the Sacrament from an outside balcony overlooking the entrance. It is understood that Mr. Asquith, in forbidding the full rights of the processions, overruled the assent previously given by tile Home Secretary, -Mr. Herbert Gladstone. Probably this was done under pressure from Nonconformists. ' Mr. Sloan, M.P.. at a great Protestant meeting in Caxton Hall, gave an address in support of Mr. Asquitn s action. The Poire has expressed great grief at the prohibition of • the Eucharistic procession. The occurrence has shaken his belief in English liberality.
