HUMAN CORMORANTS.
MAN'S IXiIL'MAXITV TO .MAX. OUTSPOKEN liEJIAKKS 01' \ BRITISH JUSTICE. Roceived 1 •>. 11.21) p.m. Sydney, |, <ls t Night. Mr' In r I" 8 ! 01 - l1 "' Court, -1. Justice Cohen, in summing up i„ an I' T !' ' ful " albert wrongful treatment brought by a fanner a«ainst :l institute, made use of slronremarks, lie said: "There are occasions when in tile public interest, however strong the desire of a Judge to preserve his mind utterly undisturbed mav'be hp should give fairhvfull expression to his feelings. This is an occasion when the public interest calls for a frank ami outspoken expression of opinion upon the methods adopted at this institute by those concerned in its management for cruel cunning, unmeasured audacitv ami hypocritical pretence, 1 doubt whether the annals of a Court of this State disclose a ease to which the application of these epithets could be move justly applied. It is a strong illustration of man's inhumanity to man, and shows how crafty, cunning, and designing. men in haste and hunger for hioik-v can set at naught the feelings and sufferings of their fellow-men, no matter what sacrifice may be involved in their machinations. The circumstances of this case show to us humanity in one of its worst forms. The whole atmosphere ef the institution reeks with wickedness, and it is only men with callous, dispositions, and with hearts of stone, steeled, perhaps, by hunger for money, who can trade upon the credulity of thoir fellowmen as the proprietors of this institution preyed upon their fellow-men."
