A movement is on foot at Nelson to erect a memorial to the late Hon. Albert Pitt, Attorney-General and Defence Minister. A shilling subscription is being raised, and it is proposed that tile memorial should take the form of a statue ill Queen's Gardens.—Press wire. News was received yesterday of the death of Mrs. Stanford, wife of Mr. U. L. Stanford, S.M., formerly of New Plymouth.

Mr. W. Aiiibiirv, who has been confined to his hunse for a week past by an attack of inlluenza and quinsey, was I able to return to business yesterday. ill'. .Malcolm li. Snoad, tea importer, | of Wellington, died yesterday after n short illness. Thirty years ago Sir. Snoad was a member of the London Stock Exchange, where he was held in such esteem that on resigning to take up farming pursuits in Canterbury the members voted him a, handsome present in recognition of his long and honorable career. The deceased was a native of Aahiford, Kent, and was 73 years of age. After farming in Canterbury lie joined the Government Insurance Department, but resigned his position to become secretary of the Wellington Underwriters' Association. He leaves a widow, four sons, and a daughter.— Presg wire. At the Primitive Methodist Church, Stratford, yesterday, the marriage was celebrated of Miss Sophie Abraham and Mr. Humphrey E. Hancock, both of Midliirst.

The death of Mr. Fred Bell, of Waipuku, took place ou Sunday. Deceased, who was (iO years of age, had lived at Waipuku for the past sixteen years, and was highly respected. He leaves a widow and grown-up family to mourn their loss, to whom we beg to tender our sincere sympathy in their suddwil bereavement.
