SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOAN. ] London, September 11, i . 1 ' le prospectus of the South Australian loan invites holders of the maturing 4 per cent, debentures to convert their holdings to equal amounts of 3'/ a pel cent., receiving a cash payment of 4is (id per cent.; holders to retain the January coupons for payment when due. Cash applications close ou the loth and conversion applications on the 22nd in it. The Westminster Gazette says the South Australian loan looks reasonably cheap as a lock-up investment.
LONDON MARKETS. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Wellington, have received the following cable message from their London house, under date of the 10th inst.:— Frozen meat.—The market for beef is weak and a further decline is expected. Since our last advices Now Zealand prime ox hiuds are per lb. lower; New- Zealand prime ox fores y ß d per lb higher. The market for mutton is linn, but prices are unchanged. The lamb market is weak, but jirices are not notably changed. Tallow—Since our last advices prices are higher Iby (id to Is per cwt. The advance is chielly on good mutton tallow of medium to fair color. Rabbitskins—The prices are likely to continue firm, but there is a possibility of a rise at next sales. Buyers are not at all eager, and appear to be inclined to act cautiously. DALGETY & CO.'S HIDE AND SKIN REPORT. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their fortnightly sale of wool, skins, hides and tallow on Friday last, when a large catalogue of all classes .was submitted to a large attendance of buyers. Wool—There was spirited competition and prices advanced by about per lb., crossbred lambs' selling at from 4%d to 5%d, crossbred fleece s|4d, inferior 2 1 / 4u, crossbred crutckings 2%d to 3'/ 2 d, inferior 2d to 2y 2 d, crossbred locks and pieces I'/od to l%d. Sheepskins.—Sheepskins advanced by about %d per lb. Fine cross-ibred realised 5%d to Gd, crossbred 4d to s '/id, half-bred 4d to 5 '/ 2 d, crossbred shorts 3d to 4d, crossbred dead and broken 2%d to 4d, crossbred hoggets' sd, crossbred laimbs' 4'/ 2 d to S'/jd, inferior 3'/ 2 d to 3%d, shorn lambs' 3'/ 2 d, lambs' dead and broken 3 '/id to 4d, merino 3%d, pelts 2%&, inferior %d, crossbred salted 2g 9d to 3s lid, crossbred damp 2s 8d to. 3s 6d. |
Hides. —No prime lots offering. Prices were on a par with last sale rates, excepting calf, which showed considerable improvement.
