By Telegraph.—Press Association, "Wellington, Friday. At the Supreme Court to-day John Bishop, alias Brown, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for theft from 1 a dwelling. Nelson, Friday. Five residents of the Tadmor and 3Jotupiko districts wre prosecuted for taking deer out of season. All pleadod guilty. Counsel for the Acclimatisation .Society asked for a substantial penalty owing to the extreme difficulty of obtaining evidence. One oil'ender was lined 10s and each of the others ss, with costs 28s Od. The Magistrate said lie lind dealt exceptionally leniently with the oll'enders because they 'had pleaded guilty. This should be a warning to others that in the event of further convictions heavier penalties would be imposed.
