THE COURTS.
By Telegraph.—Press Association, Daimevirke, Last. Night. To-day a young man named William Riehter, a recent arrival from Germany; was before the Court charged with theft of jewellery, breaking anis entering and theft of a bicycle on July 4. He stole a bike at Masterlou, rotbj through to Dannevirke, and threw the machine in a stream. He visited tlie residence of \V. F. Knight on July Olli, asked for and was supplied with food; On leaving he saw a window open and went in and stole a jewel case, the of Mrs. Williams: He went on to Napier, and on returning on August 5 again entered the house, but was discovered and decamped without anything. Tile robbery was a mys- . tery, but Riehter was subsequently arrested in 'Wellington for theft of the bicycle and jewel, and a ring, identified ns that of Mrs. Williams', was found in the lining of his coat, ile stated he had thrown the other jewellery in a river near Napier. He pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. For theft of the bike at Maslertim he received three months. Riehter was also committed for sentence at Woodville on Wednesday for theft at Papatawa.
