NEW PLYMOUTH CRICKET CLUB
ANNTAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Xe\v Plymouth Cricket Club was held last night at the Towu Hull. There was a good attendance, and Air. E. Whittle was voted to the chair.
The annual report was read as folpresenting its annual report your committee has to congratulate the club on the splendid success achieved during the past season. Your East team won the senior championship, which carries with it the Robertson Cup, and your junior eleven were also successful iu winning the junior championship. It is to be regretted that the country teams, in failing to play their return matches, deprived the West team of almost nil their matches in the second roumd. A marked improvement was shown, during the season in bowling. The iinaucea of the club an; iu a healthy state. Notwithstanding the heavy expenditure, a gain of £2 Os yd was made over running expenses; this, with the balance brought forward from the preceding year, leaves your club with a credit balance of £8 3s 3d. The thanks of the club are due to the Hon. O. Samuel, Messrs. A E. Watkins, D. Teed, and Jiuues Smith for donations. In addi- ! tion tb the cash balance the club has material to the value of ahout £2O. It l is pleasing to note that with two exceptions all subscriptions were paid. Tlie Recreation Sports Ground will he available for cricket this season, and your committee has also, secured the Tukapa ground. A call was made during the season for donations towards laying down practice wickets ill the Recreation Grounds, and was responded to very liberally. Vour committee regrets that several oi your members have left the district since last season, including Mr. E. O. Lightband, who was a member oi the club for several years and last veai successfully captained the East team. Orn the eve of iiis departure the members met and presented him with, a valuable token as a mark of appreciation. It will also be proposed to make Mr Eightband a life member. The bat presented by Dr. Walker to the player gaining the highest batting average during the season has heeji won b) Mi. A. S. Haseil. The principal items in the balancesheet wore £2ll 5* received ia suo»criptiras, and £2l 5s expended ill material. The chairman, moving the adoption oi the report and warmly complimented ihe secretary upon Uw result of the year's management, adding that at the moment there was wit one member's subscription outstanding, which he thought was something oi a record amongst eriekei clubs. Mr. Hasell said the club was handicapped in this respect owing to lack of practice wickets. Mr. Goss said that he had heard that tale for so many years that he had got tired of it. The season will start not later than the first week in October. A vote of thanks to the chairman and the Press concluded the meeting.
During the evening most complimentnrv reference was made to the great services rendered to the club and to cricket by ilr. E. Whittle, the re-elect-ed club 'captain,- speakers attributing to him a praiseworthy desire to foster cricket both in his club and out of it.
