HUMPTY-DUMPTY. Pantoininic comes l)iit, once .a year, and then for a brief -stay only. 'This year it is " Jluiii-pty-Piuiipty," and the New Plymouth season will he ushered in next Friday at the Theatre Koy-.il. The production tomes with a. big reputation for its speetaele, comedy, and mnsie. The fun department is said lo be particularly well equipped. A lot, of the mirth centres round amusing efforts to force a smile upon the features of the dolorous potentate, King Solium. This monarch is represented by Mr. licit Gilbert, one of the most prominent pnatominio comedians on Hie stage to-day. Mr. Gilbert's woebegone expression is said to be irresistible, and when lie breaks down and weeps at the jests designed to throw him into convulsions of laughter, the audience save the situation, Mr. Gilbert is admirably backed U]i by Mr. Victor Loydall, whose makeup and costumes as Queen Martha and his matrimonial antics are memories wherever lie has been. Mr. Harry Shine has also a quaint character to portray in Bison Hob, a droll circus proprietor. The speciality features includes Messrs. Queen and Le Brim's clowning and animal impersonations and some remarkably good imitations of favourite stage artists by Miss Olga Grey, who has only recently iiimdc her debut, and has wan sure popularity wherever she lias been. Miss Mabellc Morgan lias a. number of haunting songs, one being ''Bayon," which is given with a pretty canoeing effect. Miss Dillion appears in a ■w-lii>-l-wind dance, and the children of the pantomime give a charming representation of the famous characters in nursery literature. Mr. George Hall, who is conducting, has written, some catchy, orchestral music, and the airs are said to linger pleasantly on the ear. The ballets are announced as being on an elaborate scale. The box plan will lie open at the Dresden on Tuesday morning.
