DISTRICT NEWS.
INGLEWOOD. (From Our Own Correspondent). Butter buyers are very busy about this district, no fewer than twenty linns being represented on Monday last, when the Lcjrpurton Dairy Company's directors met to consider the question of the disposal of their company's output. The output was sold, 1 hear, at HVsd. All the factories and creameries are in full swing now, and with the very seasonable weather we are having at present and the high prices ruling, dairying this year should be a very profitable undertaking. The usual monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held last night in the Council Chambers, when the following members were present—Messrs Curtis, Chairman, Brown, McDonald, Winlield, Young, Bennett and Surrey. The Library Committee wrote asking the Council to remit the charge of 3d. a week for removing rubbish, on the, grounds that the Library was the absolute property of the Council, it was decided to waive the charge in the meantime.
A letter was received from the Post Office to the effect that all rubbish was burnt on the premises under the supervision of a responsible officer, and asking the Council whether under the circumstances tliey were liable to pay the usual cost of removing it. It was resolved that the Council could iiot remit the charge. Mrs. Harris wrote saying that she could not keep her rubbish for' a whole week, and further that she considered such a course unhealthy, and that in future she intended to burn all her rubbish on the premises. The letter was laid on the table. The Treasury advised that the Government subsidy of £lO3 Is. 3d.-on rates collected was now available. Permission was given to the Electric Light Engineer to cut oft' any defective or unsatisfactory installation. The action of the Water Works Committee in accepting Smart Bros.' tender for fittings and pipings for the water works was confirmed. An extra £25 was voted to Moynlhnn on his contract for £SO for sluicing at the gravel pit, after a great argument, in which all the couneillers took part. The captain of the lire brigade waited on the Council and asked, them to provide the Brigade with a plan of the fire plugs put the distance oa the fire plug tablets, to decide on a code of signals for the different parts of the town, and keep the plugs clear of earth and shingle. The question of the plan of the lire plugs was left in the hands of the water supply committee with power to act. The Council adopted the code of signals suggested, and authorised the rest of the work asked for. The accounts amounting to £ll2 12s. 3d. were passed for payment.
TARIKI. The Cheese factory is now running every (lay ami the qunnlily of milk supplied is increasing rapidly, owing to a number of supjilicrs having their cows coming in early and the weather for the last week being exceptionally fine and warm for the time of the year. • Mr Charlie Cartwright met with a nasty accident on Saturday when falling bush on \V. W. Smith's farm. His axe slipped and caught the inside of the right foot, penetrating to the bone. His mate Mr Robinson promptly summoned Mr Smith who lost no time in conveying the injured man to Stratford where Dr. Carbury attended to the wound, which proved to be of a somewhat serious nature. The accident was all the more unfortunate as another day's work would have finished the job, which unpleasantly illustrates the old saw—"Never whistle till you are out of the bush." The social in aid of the Roberts Fund to be held on the 3rd. should be a great success. The committee are making every effort to insure a pleasant evening's entertainment for those attending.
