TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
_A meeting u f the commitle of ths Taeanaki Agricultural Societv was held on Monday evening, Mr. \V. Ambury presiding. A report was presented from the sub- <■ ilittec appointed to consider the schedule for the coming show. This was approved. It was decided to hold the anniril dinner on the first day of the show, A coinmiltee was set up lo arrange details. The arrangements for luncheon and catering were left in the hands if the sterol a ry.
Two new rules were inserted in the schedules—(l) That no printed or ad'vorlisiug mailer should be placed on the pens except the Society's cards, ami ■l2) That all prize tickets should be removed during judging.
The following were tJie alterations made, in the schedule for the show:
In the thoroughbred horse section it was decided that stallions need be exhibited on the second day of the show ■only, it being recognised that it was very inconvenient for horse-owners to travel from home for anv lengthy period during th'e season. A new class' was inserted for best foal in the draught section. Jn the ladies' hack classes the ■descriptions will now read "15 hauls and over" and "15 hands and hinder,-' A high jump sweepstake has been inserted for the second da v. In the harness section a class has 'been added for pair of ponies, 12 hands and under, lo be shown and driven in harness. It w,is decided that all double jumps in the competitions should be forty feet or more apart. In the pedigree cattle classes no material alterations lini'e taken place except in the aged bull an.l cow classes respectively, these now being brought into line with the other classes and made to read "calved prior lo July Ist" in each year instead of "three years 'and over," etc. In the pedigree Jersey isectiou a herds prize will be awarded for bull and three cows or heifers, the property of one owner. The names of etttle entered for the herds prize mint be-handed in at the time of entry. Ctitl'e competing in this class are not dcharr.'d from being exhibited in their respective individual classes in the Jersey section. On the factory butter classes it has been decided that the exhibits are lo be drawn from butter placed in the free/.iug works earlier than hitherto, in order that exhibits may be placed on much the same footing as when the butter reaches ithe Home market. Eighty per cent, rj itho total moneys contributed by dairy Ifactories will be distributed among the winners, instead of 75 per cent, as last year. It will be, stipulated this year in the fresh butter classes that it ;s Ito be salted.
