caused a sensation in Calcutta, was shot in revenge at the Alipur gaol hospital yesterday. His assailants were two fellows who hud concealed revolvers that were supplied by visiting friends. They had shammed illness and were seiu to the hospital. Oossnn died inuneuiately. Two European prisoners who attempted to disarm the miscreants were seriausly wounded. The gaol authorities frequently protested against the number of gaol visitors.
Arnbindo Chose, arrested in eoimivtinn with the bomb discoveries in Calcutta, had n brilliant career. He was educated in England at .St. Paul's School (from which he won an open scholarship), and proceeded to Cambridge,, where lie took n first-class in classics.! lie passed all the examinations for the Indian Civil Service, but failed to qualify in riding. On his return '.o India he entered the service of the (iaekwar of liaroda, which he left at considerable pecuniary sacrifice in ord-'r to curry on political propaganda, which last veiir brought him in conflict with the authorities.
Shortly after the arrests it was reported that a confession liml been made by llircndranath Choose. He admitted that he was a ringleader in a gang 1 which was determined to assassinate prominent ollicials. He described the establishment of the secret bomb factory and the arrangements for distributing revolvers among his followers. He also described two attempts which' weiv made to blow up a special train in which Sir Andrew eraser, the Liciuen-ant-Oovcrnor of liengal, and Lady Eraser were travelling, and also an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate 111. mayor at Chandcrimgm-e.
