Wheat and Flour—The quantity alloat for the United Kingdom is 1,875,000 quarters; for the Continent 1,500,000 quarters; Atlantic shipments 442,000 quarters. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Wellington, August 31. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner at London, dated August 29:
Frozen meat.—-The mutton market is dull except for prime light weights. North Island mutton is quoted as follows: Light weights 3%d, heavy weights 3%d. Canterbury: Light weights 4%J (nominal). The lamb market is slightly weaker, with less demand. Supplies of home-grown lambs arc heavy and the result is a lowering of the prices ot New Zealand lambs. Canterbury brands 5%d, other than Canterbury s'/ a d. The beef market is firm. The supply is running short, but high prices are restricting business in New Zealand beef. Hind quarters 4%d, fore quarters 3%i1. Butter—The market is quiet with little doing, but a good feeling prevails. The stock of New Zealand butter is exhausted. Danish is quoted at 120s, Canadian 115s, Siberian 108s per cwl.
Cheese—The market is steady. There is not much demand, but prices are firm. The stock of New Zealand cheese is exhausted. Canadian is quoted at 01s per cwt. Hemp—The market is speculative but quiet. There is little doing, but a good feeling prevails. Following are current quotations for supplies on the spot: Good fair grade on the spot £2O 15s, fair grade on the spot £23, fair current Manila on the spot £23 10s. October to December shipments are quoted as follows:—Good fair grade £2O 10s, fair grade £22 10s, fair current Manila £23 10s. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 24,000 bales. Wool—The market is steady with improved demand. The following are current quotations for Bradford tops:— Thirty-sixes low erossbreds 10s, forties low erossbreds HK/jd, forty-fours medium erossbreds ll'/ 2 d, fifties half-breds Is 3%d, fifty-sixes quartcr-breds Is O'/id, sixties merinos Is lid.
Hops—The market is very quiet. Cocksfoot seed—Buyers are not keen to do business in cocksfoot seed.
