ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER
THE DUKEDIN SHOOTING CASE. 'ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Police Court today, Johri iWeister was charged with having oa August 20 th attempted to murder Ueo. Hubbard, and also with having attempted to murder Ms wife, aiana Webster.
Evidence for the prosecution was to the effect that accused went to the house where his wife (wfoo was not living with him) was staying, and demanded to Bee her. She refused to go to the door at first, but afterwards; Consented to do so. Accused wanted his "wife to go outside, but she refused. Kwrtlj- afterwards accused pointed a revolver at Mrs. Webster, but Downes, the occupier of the house, caught the revolver and forced it over accused'-: shoulder. A struggle ensued, accused freeing himself, and then putting thu revolver in his pocket. Downes demanded possession of the revolver, but accused threatened to blow his brains out. Accused then went up the street. liter On he was overtaken by George Hubbard, who said he believed accused bad firearms on him. Accused replied in the negative, but Hubbard expressed hia intention of searching him. According to Hubbard, accused then pointed the revolver at his stomach, but Hubhard knocked his hand down, and the ballet went between Hubbard's legs. 'When accused was arrested he handled Jhe police sergeant a letter containing lug will. °
