TROUBLESOME NATIVES.
IN THE COOK ISLANDS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. Colonel Gudgeon, British Kesiaent Commissioner at Cook Islands, is communicating with tile New Zealand Government regarding the trouble recently experienced with the natives of Manihiki and Ilotohanga, who have shown a determination not to recognise the Island Councils. European traders are adopting stringent precautions for the protection of their stores, and the opinion is expressed that an occasional visit of British warships would have a salutary effect upon the troublesome natives.
