OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND. Duiivdin, Saturday Night. The football match, Otago' v. South-. land, was played here to-day in splcnditl' weather on a perfect ground. At the opening the wind was very light, hut it increased in force as the game progressed, and was very strong at the finish. Otago had the best of the luck in this respect. For the first half-hour Southland had the advantage, but after Hint Otago had decidedly the better of the game, and ultimately won by 28 poinis to 6. In the first spell Miles scored for Southland, and Dougherty and O'Sul'ivan for Otago. In the second half, ileKenzie, Ivimey, Fitzpatrick and Stalker scored for the home team, while Paton converted two tries and kicked two goals from marks. Broad scored for Southland. Otago had the advantage m the scrums and loose, but Southland were superior on the line.
WANGANUI v. HAWKE'S BAY. Napier, Saturday Night. The rep. Rugby match, Wanganui v. Hawke's Bay, was played to-day" in beautiful weather, and resulted in a wiu for Hawke's Bay by 11 points to nil. In the first spell a mark secured by Wall for Hawke's Bay was converted by hiiu, and Kenyon obtained a try, which Wail converted. In the second spell the local side never gave their opponents a chance, but the only score was an unconverted try secured by Wall. About five minutes after' the start of the play a regrettable accident happened. Wanganui were forced, and from a kick-off the ball came to Synies, the Hawke's Bay full-back. Hogan tried to intercept Symes' kick. Synies' foot caHght Hogan on the shin, and the bone was broken. The injured man was attended to by the St. John's Ambulance Brigade, and then removed to the hospitaL The occurrence was purely accidental and was much regretted by ail. Souter filled the vacancy in the nui team. .
