ARRIVAL OF AN INDIAN STEAMER. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The British - India steamer 'Maura from Calcutta direct arrived at Wellington yesterday. She brings a cargo of 300") tons of gunny bags, bonemcal, and oil, 132S tons of wlhich are for Wellington, and the remainder for Auckland. There arc uleven coolie passengers on board who are bound for the Fiji plantations. A coolie child died of bronchitis 0:1 the run down. The crew numbers 100, which includes firemen. They are all colored men. No trouble has been experienced witSi them, and so far as could be learned, they are untouched by th-e disaffection which is supposed to be fairly general in Bengal. The political trouble in any case did not affect the shipping. At Calcutta there were a good many vessels in port when tlhe Maura lett that were, waiting for charters. Shipping business had been unusually dull in flndia at the moment.
WREATH FOR NELSON'S MONUMENT. Wellington, Last Night. A block of ice containing a wreath from tlie local branch of the Navy League was yesterday placed aboard the R.M.S. Kimutaka. The wreath surrounded by ice is to be placer on Nelson's monument in London on the 21st October, the anniversary of Trafalgn. The wreath is of red, white and blue llowers, and intertwined with typical New Zealand ferns and foliage.'

As an outcome, of the recent Mornin'gtnii school trouble, Mr. DafvidsoiV; the headmaster, is issuing a writ claiming t'soo damages against one of the parties who had been assailing him in the Press. HOTEL DELIBERATELY SET FIRE TO. Re-efton, Saturday Nigfht. This afternoon the inquest on thel Southern Cross Hotel fire on 13(hJ August was concluded. A verdict wa« rotumed that the hotel was wilfully.' set fiiv to, but there was not sufficient i evidence to show by whom. 1
LABOR AIJD MR. JUSTICE RIM Dunodin, .Saturday. The meeting of working men in Dunedin South, convened by circular to select a candidate, was'thinly attended. Mr. Steve Boreham, the wellknown labor advocate, submitted a resolution denouncing Mr. Justice Kim as an unsafe person to occupy any judij cial position. Mr. Boreham, who acti ed as chairman, asked the meeting to decide, whether lie should put the ivso-. ltilion to tllic vote or not. There was only a single response from either side, and Ihe proposition was conse- I fluently dropped.
