lAt the meeting of the Patea Chambei of Commerce ou Tuesday Mr. C. E Major, M.P., forwarded a le'ttcr from the Minister for Railways regarding ' the mail train stopping at Ball road station as follows:—"With reference to your representations in support of the request that the mail train should stop at Ball road station, I have to inform you that there are already too many stopping-places for the express trains between Wellington and New Plymouth, and after giving the matter every consideration 1 regret that I cannot see my way to accede to the request. 1 would point out that representations have' already been made to the Department urging that the journey time of the mail trains between Wellington and New Plymouth should be shortened, and this can only be done by cutting out some of the existing stopping-places, and there is no likelihood of any additional ones being approved, hi regard to the stoppages already made at Kakaramea and Manutahi. I would point out that although possibly the settlers in the vicinity of these stations may be in a slight minority, there is no 'doubt that strong objections would be made by them to the cutting off of the facilities already provided." Mr. Major wrote stating that he was of the opinion that owing to the increase of settlers who use the Ball road station, in the near future the Minister will have to accept the full warrant of traffic returns at the station and make it a stopping-place for the express train.
