THE OATS MARKET.
BOTTOM FALLING OUT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. There are signs of a complete break hi tlie oats market, owing to tthie absence of demand and a scries of forced silks. It is reported that a purchase was made to-day by a Southland firm of a considerable line of B grade sparrowbills at Is 7d at Gore, equivalent to Is 10d f.o.b. Bluir. Advices from Auckland also state Hint B grade Sparrowliills is offering there from the South at Is lid f.o.b,' This represents a drop of between 8d and !)d per bushel from tlie hig/hest' point touched this season, and as a, majority of merchants laid in heavy; stocks at highest prices tlie losses must be heavy. This promises to bto tlhw most disastrous year experienced in the oats trade for a good many, years. Advices from Australia indicate a demoralised market in .Sydney and .Melbourne, owing to the heavy shipments from New Zealand on consignment. There is no present indication of a renewal of the North Island demand, and merchants are turning their eyes to London, but tlie absence of cheap freights blocks the way hi that quarter.
