.A recent decision of the full benefit of the Supreme Court decided that in I point of law the Municipal Corpori- . tions Act, 1900, is over-ridden by tlio Hnwera County Electric Company's Act, '1902, and thereby renders the Kltham Borough Council liable, to pay compensation in respect of water taken for the purpose of a wader supply. The matter is an important one to local bodies, and (the Xew Zealand Times says) Mr S.viues is asking that legislation be introduced this session to remedy this invasion of ,public rights at the bands of a private company in so far as it derogates from the light of the public to take water for water supply purposes.
