In connection with the prosecution of Mr. 13. Enroth for not having regu-, larly sent to school a child of whom he wag allegedly the guardian, a lengthy letter Ims been received by the Education Board from the defendant. A tohearing of the case has been set down for 3rd September. Mr. Enroth states that the lad in question has been for some time an inmate of his house, Mrs. Enroth having picked him up oil the streets of Auckland, the boy being weak of physique and little better mentally. Helping the little fellow was with them a labor of fove. The boy had since improved, but he was not strong enough to stand regular study at school, aiid he was sometimes kept at home for that reason. Excuses for absence were sent to the school teacher. Mr. Enroth gave the boy tuition himself during absence from school. "I have lived," wrote Mr. Enroth, "where we have an excellent Education Act, but it has not tJie drastic punitive provisions that I now find are in force here. I think before a quasicriminal charge was laid against me I should have been cautioned in some way. The inspector said in Court that his salary does not admit of such detail on his part, and I have thus been made a victim of the parsimony or poverty of your Board." He asked the Board to drop further proceedings. It was decided to inform Mr. Enroth that the matter was sub judice and beyond control of the Board.
