OBITUARY.
BARON VON STERNBURG. Berlin, August 25. Baron Speck von. gteraburg, formerly German Ambassador at Washington, lias died at Heidelberg. The Kaiser in a message of condolence to the Baron's brother, eaya: "I sincerely mourn the loss of so splendid an Ambassador. His services to tho Fatherland easura him my gratitude beyond the grave." I PRESIDENT ROOSEVEI/T'S SYMPATHY. Received 25, 10.40 p.m. New York, August 26. President Roosevelt telegraphed to the German Charge d'Affaires that lie was shocked and grieved to learn of the death of Baron von SterUburg. "He was not only my intimate person friend," he said, "but one of the most fearless and sincere loyal men I ever met. As a diplomatist he possessed signal ability, and served Germany With fervent patriotism, yet showed such intelligent goodwill to America that it would be difficult to overestimate the value that he did in strengthening and bringing about the closer ties and friendship between the town countries. I mourn his loss for my own sake deeply, and feel regret for the sake of the people of the United States."
