John Webster, who was arrested on Thursday night on a charge of 'attempting to murder Ueorge Hubbard, is to be further charged with attempting to murder his wile. The incident wuich led to the latter charge occurred shortly before Webster discharged a revolver at Hubbard.
NEW MAKIST IsituinJiUS' SCHOOL. Napier, Last Night. The Manst Brothers' new wrick school in Shakespeare road, erected to replace tho wooden structure which was partially destroyed by fire, was dedicated by Arclibisuop KedwooiT this afternoon. Prior to the ceremony, thoru was a large procession, headedby the band from St. Patrick's Churclli, through the town to the school. In the course of his address, Hie Archbishop congratulated We Catholics ot Napier on the erection of the school, and said it was one of many evidences that the Catholic body tulroughout New Zealand wore determined that their children should have a true religious education, as well as perfect secular instruction. The cost came from the pockets of the Cauliolics, and in numerous oases from the pockets of the \cry poor. The Mayor (Mr. J. Vigor Brown) offered congratulations, and Mr. J. C. Westall, member of the 'Napier High School Board of Governors, also spoke. Tlie Archbishop said the cost of tllie building and furnishing of the school was £I4OO. Nearly £(io was obtained • by a collection alter to-day's proceedings.
REVERSIBLE TURBINES. AueKland, Saturday. John Marks, an. Auckland resident, claims to lhave solved the problem of the reversible turbine, and press representatives who were shown a working model state that it appeared to demonstrate the truth of the assertion. The steam was shut off and the engine set moving in Uhe opposite direction in a few seconds.
THE CHINESE TRAGEDY. AueKland, Saturday. At the coroner's inquest concerning the death of Fong Wong Chec, which resulted from wounos indicted in a fight waged with knife and gun, the jury returned a verdict.that deatli was caused by a gunsmot. wound feloniously inflicted by Louie Shoe Hot-k. The Coroner siiid the verdict amounted to one of manslaughter.
