It was mentioned at the Marboui Board yesterday that a report was current in Wellington that the general election would be held on October 4th. Mr. King stated, however, that he had been told in Christclmrch that the House was unlikely to rise before the middle of October.
The case against B. Enroth, at the instance of the truant inspector, is'\to be reheard on 3rd September. The rehearing was granted yesterday by Mr. R. Cock, Justice, the application being based on the fact that fresh evidence for the prosecution was now available to prove that Mr. Enroth is the guardian of the child whose absence from school is the subject of the proceedings.

The committee, at the request nf their friends, propose to hold a socnl evening on Wednesday night next.
The annual meeting of the choir of the Whiteley Memorial Church was held last night. The annual report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted, and the following oilicers elected for the ensuing year:—Organist and choirmaster, Air. G. 11. White; assistant, Mr. N. Okey; secretary and treasurer, Miss Elsie Mynotl; librarian, Miss Ivy Hooker; committee, Misses iilaek and Bluuehetl, .\los.-,rs. Lawn and Tuck. Ainougst other matters, arrangements were made for the holding of a united Methodist choir festival, when Parmer's "Christ and Mis Soldiers" will be produced.
