Since the sheep census closed in April, 110 less than 40,000 wethers liave licva brought overland, generally from southern districts of Taranaki and portions of Uawke's Bay and Wellington into the Waikato. Although there was a very great inllux two years ago to all parts of the province, the siheep immigration to the Waikato this winter is unprecedented in the history of Auckland as a sheep-grazing district. These figures show, of course, that the frozen meat industry and tile local meat trade are botlli increasing and that land is being steadily settlod.

At a meeting of shareholders of the Wellington Gas Company to-day It was decided to increase the capital of the company to £400,000 by the creation of additional capital to the amount of <-.■■2(10,000.
