ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
iUSTRESSIXU FATALITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christcliurcli, Last Night.. A distressing fatality occurred at the reservoir works on CaSlmierc Hill this morning, a young single man, named George Castles, being killed by a fall of clay. The police report states that Castles, with two other men, named Samuel Dwight and Timothy Donoghue, was working in a cutting of clay which was being undermined prior to a fall. Castles was warned by the engineer in charge about twenty 'minutes before tho disaster not to go under so far the bank was not safe. The young man replied that it was quite safe, and he would not mind sleeping there. The bank fell upon Castles without any warning, and when he was dug out about ten minutes later life was extinct. The body was removed to the morgue, where an inquest was ilieiil this evening, a verdict of accidental death being returned.

By a fall of earth, a man named George Castles, working at the excavations at the new city reservoir at Cashmere Hills, was buried by a bank «f, earth falling on him. lie was dug out within ten minutes, but life was extinct. OIL LAUiNCII FATALITY. Dunedin, Tuesday. An oil launch capsized at the mouth of the Catlhis river yesterday. One of the occupants, Alfred Uates, got ashore with difficulty. He found it impossible to rescue : his companion, Thomas Murray. Murray was drowned and liis body has not yet been recovered. Deceased was 22 years old. He leaves a widow and one child residing at Ahuriri.
