"It my Stratford sale on Tuesday there was a good yarding and fair attendance, but bidding was' quiet, the counter attractions of licet week in Auek and probably accounting for absence of buyers. On Wednesday 1 held a clearing sale at Pukefotara, on account of Messrs. W. Humphries & Sons, when there was a "ood attendance. The cows were a ■rood lot, but not looking too well, and absence of calving dates militated ifaiiist higher prices being realised. As it" was, however, early calvers met wit" keen competition and sold well, llie horses were well competed for, especially unbroken draughts. LONDON DAIRY. 11KPOKT. Messrs. E. Grillilhs aiid Co. are, in receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Mills and Sparrow, dated the 3rd of July, 1008:--Tlie weather is very brilliant, and there are no signs of rain. In the south the hay is practically all stacked, and there is yet a fair quantity in the Midlands and North to be carted. All districts report a splendid crop. Some good rains would l»c welcomed by the farmers in the southern counties. Butter.—Danish:,No change in quotation; markets in the North are not so buoyant as agents would wish, and buyers arc resisting present prices veri vigorously. Siberian: About 11,000 cask s came to hand this week, and some imagined that with the increase, in quantity slightly lower prices would rule. The demand has, however, been good, and all the butlers are practically cleared at late rates. It seems impossible to get any reliable information is to the make in Russia, but they must have an exceptionally good season from now on to make up the shortage which there undoubtedly is in the arrivals ol butter up to the present. French: Quality, which up to the present time has been particularly fine, has dropped h.i'-k i>u account of the heat, and lower prices are in some instances being accepted. -A little cooler weather would soon put this right. Trish: The heavy make continues, and some factories ami
creameries have been put into cold store. It is dillieult to say whether these are for storing until the autumn or merely to keep them in good order and condition instead of letting them remain for a few days in an ordinary warehouse. Some of the recent arrivals have shown signs of heat. American:. A very heavy ' I make is reported, and some anticipate I a surplus to be shipped to this country | if the present favorable conditions continue. Australian prices and quotations are merely normal, as there is not sullicieiit oll'ering to make a market. New Zealand: The reports of a lire on board the s.s. lonic are disquieting. The shipping company this morning say that the cables do not mention any butt :r as being damaged, but the mere fact of its not being mentioned in the cables does not necessarily mean that it U not atl'ectcd.
Cheese.—Canadian: Prices arc easier by cable this morning, and reports *,o hand say that all crops are in a vcy nourishing condition. It is altogether too early yet to say definitely, but the conditions at time of writing are goo.l, and everything points to a prosperous time for the farming industry in the dairying districts. L. A. NOLAN & CO.'S IIEI'ORT. Poultry—On Saturday ve had a good entry of table birds for which there was a keen demand. CHUISTOUURCII STOCK MARKKT. At the Addington live stock market on Wednesday there were small entries of stuck nnd an equally small attendance at the yards. Fat cattle and fat lambs sold at about the previous week's prices, and fat sheep were rather easier. Pigs met with a good sale. A few lines of breeding ewes, mostly good sorts, and odd lots of hoggets and wethers, formed the entry of store sheep. There was an improvement in the demand, and a clearance was effected at prices that showed a little improvement in the cases of the better classes of sheep. Two-tooth ewes made up to 17s lid; youii" ewes of mixed ages to 18s 'id; down'ewes. lo 14s Kid; best hoggets, *J Ills 3d; and half-bred wether hoggets, lis !M to 12s (id. The first line of ewes with lambs for this season were offered, and failed to tiud a buyer at the reserve put upon them, though the lambs were a well-grown and healthy lot. There were about a dozen lots of fat lambs penned, and they met with good competition up to la'te rates, prices ranging from 12s to Ids Bd, and a few up 'o 18s. There was a small yarding of fat sheep, and owing to the butchers having tonight heavily Uie week before, the dcimind was slack and prices for wethers were rather easier. Fat sheep.—There was a large yarding, close on 3011(1' being forward. 'A good proportion were iirst-class wethers. There were fewer ewes than usual, and for these prices improved. Owing to poor competition by outsiders the sale dragged at the finish, with prime ■sheep slightly easier than opening rates.
