The Wellington representative football team arrived here this morning. The team will play Auckland for the Ranfurly Shield on Saturday. WELLINGTON ITEMS-. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night considered a protest by W. Fraser, of Southland, against his disqualification for disputing a referee's ruling. Fraser denied the charge. Fraser is to be informed that the appeal is not in Order, not having been lodged within the stipulated time. Mr. H. Kelly leaves Wellington for Sydney to-morrow to represent the New Zealand Rugby Union in respect to its financial interests in the tour of the Anglo-Welshmen in Australia. At the meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union committee to-night, F. Murphy, of the Polhill fourth grade team, was suspended till the end of the 1909 season for using obscene language during a recent match. TARANAKIw. WELLINGTON. The following seventeen Taranaki players have been chosen to go into training and to assemble in New Plymouth on Monday morning preparatory to meeting the Wellington football representatives on the Recreation Ground on Thursday next: Hardgraves, P. Skeahan, Dive, Cameron, Buckhind, Hunter, Mynott, Frewin, Coleman, Cain, Rothery, Wliittington, Pukere, Smith, Tamu, O'Sullivan, and Crowley. "Old Stager" writes: "In selecting the teams to do battle against Wellington and Auckland, 1 hope the selector _ will make an alteration in the compositi .n of the back division, which up to now has been weak in more than one essential. C'olmaii is a failure at half, no matter how good he is in the positions of wing and full-back. Sheahan, wing three-quarter, lias not justified his inclusion, and should be retired for a better man, who can be found in Pini, the Waimatc crack back, who seems to "have escaped the eye of the selector altogether. Frewin has his deficiencies, ibut he is miles ahead of Column as a half. Some of the forwards want sorting out. Whittiugton, McKay, and O'Sullivan could be replaced with actvantage. Wliittington lias not played up to representative form; McKay won't train and loses his wind; and O'Sullivan is not the player he used to be. Rothery ought to be put in the pa* and Colman given his place. Tanro, Smith, Pukere, Cain, and Crowley cannot be improved upon.- There is no trouble in getting a seventh man. The southern division contains half-a-dozen men from whom a successful selection could be made.
