Lincoln and Nebraska, accepted ie nomination for the Presidency. He u that the Republicans Were respons e for the abuses practised by coinniercifc corporations, because they applied opiates instead of using the surgeon's kail'.. Personally he favored a tariff for revenue purposes only. He advocated the election of Senators by the direct vote of the people. He declared that the overshadowing issue of the present election was, Shall the people rule? The speech was received with greit enthusiasm.
