The grandfather, Ilohepa. held one child on the lire, oausmg frightful injuries. 'J.his child i* now in tfie hospital with some h'-pes of recovery, a'.'.d the giandl'atUvy is now in the Avondale Asylum. The second child, it was stated in the evidence, was placed three times oil the lire by the mother until it was practically done to death. This was done at the command of the grandfather and her husband. The body, which was thrown outside and afterwards humid by the two men. was partly eaten by d^gs. The coroner, addressing the jury, spoke of it as an awful outrage. The jury returned a verdict of wilful murder .against tlie grandfather and the parents, and added that the other adults present wern deserving ol punishment for not trying to prevent the crime. 'i'iie general impression is that tlie outrage "was the outcome of tohungaism, since it was stated I>y witnesses that, the deeds were done in ordsr to drive fritan out of the children.
