AILKISED CHILD "MURDER. IXIiCMAN MAORI PAREXTS IX CUSTODY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Whangarei, Thursday. Acting on information received, Sergeant Moore and Constable Wade, of Wiiangarci, lelt for the Mangaknhiuf' district on Tuesday and arrested there jvstcrday a Maori man and his wife, Mirini Xgatina.and Enia Xgatiua, on a charge of the wilful murder of their infant sou, Makarino, 18 mouths' old, o: or about July 2. Both the accused an the body of tho victim were brought, : Whangarei late last night. This man was committed to the Auckland mental hospital a day or two after, and the child was placed under treatment in the Whangarei hospital. About the same time as this shocking occurrence, it is stated that Hirini and lima a-lso threw their child on tlvo lire. Three times the baby struggled out of the Haines on to the Jicarth, but was Hung back again. Then it was thrown outside to end its torture by death, being left there all night, anil buried secretly next day. The'dreadful facts appear to have been only discovered recently by the other Maoris, who at once notified the police. An inquest is being hold, but will probably be adjourned to call an important 'witness. | Whangarei, Later. In the Maori murder case, the two accused were charged before the Court with the wilful murdov of their infant son by burning him with fire. They were remanded till August Hth.
