AUSTRALIAN FORAGE RESTRICTIONS. Received 5, 9.40 p.m. Capetown, August 5. Mr. Jagger introduced in the Cape Assembly a motion favoring the scheme of closer settlement similar to that obtaining in* Australia.' Mr, Merriman replied sympathetically, i General Viljoen's resolution, expressing the opinion that the reasons given for the Australian restrictions in regard to the importation of Cape fodder were unsatisfactory, and if the restrictions were necessary in Australia, similar reasons exist for restricting the entry uf Australian produce to the Cape, was ■greed to without dissent. An additional clause advocating the discontinuance of the differential arrangement between South Africa and Australia was withdrawn. I
