PROHIBITIVE HATES. i Received 5, 0.37 a.m. Melbourne, August 4. The high price of butter has made it prohibitive to the poorer classes. The consumption has consequently fallen off by a-flfth. It is believed that next month the Victorian production will increase sufficiently to meet the ordinary consumption. ADVANCE IN AUCKLAND. By Telegraph-—Pre«s Association. Auckland, Tuesday. A further advance of %& pur pound brings the wholesale price of butter to Is 3'/ 3 per pound. However, with a continuance of the present weather the supplies will soon he largely increased.
