Very complete arrangements have bceu made by the C'ummissiouwr of Police i\lr. \V. Diuuie, for the preservation of law and order iu Auckland) during the American licet wok. The local torce of police will be doubled by drafting sergeants and constables from other centres iu tho Dominion, and in addition, the Permanent Artillery station in Auckland will be pressed into the police force. Memuurs oi the detective force from the southern cities will also be sent to Auckland for the occasion. The Commissioner will be in Auckland himself. Detective Broberg and acting-Detective Quarterman, at, Wellington, have been selected for special duty in the northern city.
