PENSIONS AND IRISH UNIVERSITIES BILLS. ' PASS BOTH HOUSES. THE LORDS' PROTEST. Received i, 4.15 p.m. London, August 1. In the House of Commons, after the Speaker bad admitted it was a breach of privilege, the amendment moved in the House of Lords by Lord Cromer limiting the duration of the old-age pensions t« six years was deleted. Lord Killanin's amendment to l»e Irish Universities Hill was also deleted. The House of I»"'ds acquiesced in t ie House of Commons' amendments, and passed both Bills, but in the case of the Pensions Act, by 37 to *23, the Loid-> adopted Lord Unsdowne's resolution aeokrin" that while not insisting on I'".amendments, the 1.0r.1s did not accept the reasons offered by the. Commons, nor consented to their being hereafter drawn into precedent. The Bill, it was contended, was not one granfang aider supplies, and involved a question -I policy affecting the treatment of necessitous persons wherein both Houses were concerned.
