DISOBEYING A COURT ORDER
STKUCC.LE WITH THE POLICE. A man named Frank Schodroski, of Carrington road, well known in thit, district, was summoned to auuear at me Magistrate's Court on Wednesday to answer a charge of disobeying a Court order for the maintenance of his sister, who is an inmate of a hospital, iie refused to attend the Court, so the Magistrate issued a warrant for his arrest. Tho warrant was served on Friday by Constables Mctvor and Flanagan, lie resisted the police violently, but was overpowered and handcnll'ed and driven into New Plymouth. The sum of £SO 5s was found in his possession. .He was subsequently brought before Mr, 11. S. Fitzherbert, S.M., on two charges—one of disobeying the maintenance order, and the other of restating the police in the execution of their duty. Mr. Kerr appeared for the prosecution on the lirst charge. On ihc lirst charge his Worship ordered to pay the arrears, £S. and costs amounting to £2 12s immediately, or lu go to gaol until the money should he paid, such imprisonment not to exceed two months. The Magistrate pointed out that imprisonment inllieted as an alternative to tho immediate payment of the line would not release accused from his liability for the money. Alter serving the two months in gaol he would still be liable to bo brought before the Court again and again senteuced. unless he paid the money. Sehodroski elected to go to gaol. With regard to the charge of »v----sisling the police. Sergeant Haddrell did not press for a heavy penalty. He wished the public to understand that they could not disobey Court summonses and couhl not resist the police with impunity. Ifi;> Worship indicted a line of 10s. or in default 48 hours' imprisonment.
