MARRYING TO DODGE WORK.
"I met yesterday a stenographer I used to know," writes Winifred Black. "Sho was all dressed up in giddy little dress, and her hat was so big and heavy that her face was white with the effort of holding her head up straight. " I'm going to he married," said the stenographer. "I'm just sick ami tired of working, and I tell you I'm glad to get out of it at last." I wonder what the man who is marrying the stenographer thinks about it. Wouldn't it be funny if it should turn out that he was tired of working, too, and was marrying a good, capable'stenographer to earn a salary for him? Poor little stenographer, so you're going to marry a man to get out of working! I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed—anil, whisper, you ought to be. Some day you'll wake up and find that real work, really done, is just about the only kind of fun that really lasts, land then you'll begin to be happy. Yon can't dodge work in this world, and it's a great risk of waste of time end energy to try it. Every human being has to do something to pay for being alive, and the right sort of human being makes the doing something the one great aim and joy of life. Wait till my friend the stenographer has a couple of children hanging to her she'll find out what work really is. Por- } potticoats and one in her arras, anil naps, by that time she'll be glad o£ it.
