BLACKBALL MINERS' STRIKE, | By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. In the Blackball case the Appeal Court dismissed the motion for a writ certiorari to submit to ttie Supreme Court the question of the legality of the line against individual members of the Union. Costs were allowed against the Union. The Court said it could not understand how it could be said that the Arbitration Court had not jurisdiction to j enforce payment of a line under section
10, just in the same way as a lino for a breach of award. What had b.'en done by the Court was within tire very words of the section, and the Court, in making the order was acting within its jurisdiction. In addition, the Act oi 1005 took away absolutely the poweii of the Supreme Court to control the Arbitration Court. • Judge Edwards dissented from tlic decision, holding thai the Arbitration Court had exceeded its jurisdiction. Duncdin, Last Night. A conference between employees and officials of the Bruce Coal-mining Co. was held at Milton to-day. The principal question in dispute is the rates of pay. The employees ask for an increase of I'd per ton on the. present rate 12s Oil). The owners demand a decrease of 3d.' Neither would give way, and it was decided to leave the clauses relating to price rates, weighing and truekin", in abeyance. A number of other points relating to conditions of labor were agreed to.
LETTERPRESS MACHINISTS' WAGES. Dunedin, Last Night. The letterpress machinists' dispute came on for hearing at the Arbitration Court to-day. A number of details were agreed" upon in conference, but the question of wag.'s was unsettled. The employees ask for a minimum ot £3 per and employers offer £2 15s. The Court reserved its decision.
