SOUTHLAND v. WAIKAIiAI'A. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night I I'or the second time in the history of Southland football Invercargill lias been visited by a representative team from Wairarapa. On the last occasion (1903) Southland had a very strong team, and the visitors were beaten by 14 to 3. To-day tlie recent suspension of the two local senior teams necessitated the exclusion of some very line forwards, and consequently this department of the local reps, was weaker than it otherwise would have been. The result was that Wairarapa wiped out the previous defeat by beating Southland by 12 to G. There was mudi local interest as to ihow the local rep. team, re-organised, would .shape, and between GOOO and 7000 spectators were present. The Wairarapa forwards had the advantage of weight, though not by very much. The local forwards held their own well in the early part of the game, while the backs passed cleverly, soon, however, it became evident that any superiority they had in concerted dribbling and passing was counter-balanced by the greater speed and better lineplay of the Wairarapa forwards and by the very fine kicking in the loose forward rushes.. The Greens put g'reiit dash into their play and frequently gained long stretefces of ground thereby while the Maroon forwards were dependent on close heavy rushes along the line for Breaking through the opposing backs. Two or three times the Southland backs missed scores by narrow margins in spite of desperate ■tackling. Eventually Lyle scored near the corner. The kick failed. Shortly afterwards the Green backs began to make .the best vise of their kicking abilities and by this means kept the Southland backs at bay. In a dribbling rush the ball was kicked over Southland's line, and though forced by the Sout'iilanders the referee awarded Wairarapa a try, because of obstruction. O'Leary kicked a goal. There was' no furt'lier score in the lirst Spell. Tn the second spell N. McKenzie drop-kicked a goal for Wairarapa. Later O'Leary kicked a field-goal from a mark, bringing the totals to 12 to 3. Then Southland livened lip, and from a passing rush Lylc scored. The kick at goal failed. From this on the local men had slightly the belter of the play, but were never really dangerous.

In reference to the project to send a ceam of Association players Home, the ofl'iM' of the anonymous gentleman (who is known to be a Taranaki player, resident in Ilawera, lmt now oil Ins way to the Old Country) to finance a team of New Zealand players to compete against Second Leaguers at Home lias not (says the Otago Witness) been declined by the New Zealand Football Association, so there is yet hope for the aspiring colonial plaveri The decision of the ruling body is "as follows:—"After some discussion it was decided to write to the promotel' of the scheme informing him of the relation of Sir. Gibb* (now in bn([-| land) to the New Zealand Council (of which he is a vice-president), and askin" him to get into touch with Mr. Cibbs, the. Council preferring that before closing with the offer. If after the conference he was still prepared to continue negotiations, the Council would be glad to"reeeive them." Auckland favored the proposal, as did Otago, the latter, however, considering that the best value would bo got out of the trip only if voung colonial pkyevs were selected. The secretary intimated that fares would run into £2600, and the question of allowing players, say, 3s per day would have to be considered,
