TATAKAIMAKA. (From Our Own Correspondent). On Wednesday evening, July tJ.ud, ■ a farewell banquet was tendered to ,Ur. Jt'. Hudson by liis fellow-settlers at Mr. Little's Hotel, Stony Kiver. A large number sat down to ft most excellent spread, Mr. J. S. Fox oeeupied the ellair and Mr. 0. Oxeuliam the viceeliair. After the usual loyal and pain otic toasts 'had been honored, thccuiiirmau proposed the health of their guest. He said Air. Hodson had.been resident among them for the past 30 years, during which time he had shown himself to be worthy of the reSpeet and 'honor in which he "was held. He had proved himself an industrious worker, a good father, a kindly and helpful neighbor, au energetic-member of several-public bodies in which he lieki olliee, and a willing worker at all times in everything which tended to advance the district. He had brought up a very large family, several of whom uow occupied excellent business positions in Wanganui, relleeting credit on their parents. Speaking for himself, he had always found Mr. Hodson iu business matters strictly honest and just, and in losing him he was losing a good customer and the district a settler it would be hard to replace. But 'h« had decidedly earned the rest lie was now proposing to take, and while regretting bis loss to thcinselve-, he had much pleasure in proposing the health of ilr. and Mrs. Hodson and family and wishing them long life and much happiness in their new home. Hudson's excellent qualities in every respect and of their appreciation of his many kindnesses and their regret at, losing him. The toast was enthusiastically drunk wit 1 " musical honors. Ilr. Hudson very happily responded, saving that all he bad done was. he eonfsidered only his duty as a settler and neighbor, and he assured all those present that any help he had given hail been a pleasure, and that lie would do exactly the same if bis time could come over again.
