A MIXED COURTSHIP.
" I am in a good deal of trouble,'' said a truthful-looking man. "1 was married about two months ago in M , under peculiar circumstances. My wife has a twin sister, and their own mother can scarcely distinguish one from the other. They look alike , they dress alike, and they talk alike. 1 became acquainted with their brother about two years ago, and, whenever 1 have been in If— —■ visited tlic house very frequently. "At the time of my first call one of the girls was away from home on a visit," and each lime when 1 called 1 saw but one. It is singular, but nevertheless a fact, that I never knew she bad a sister. She was beautiful and accomplished, and in a short time 1 was very much in love with her. t proposed and was rejected, but in such a way thai I still hoped to gain her affections, am in two ov three months 1 repeated m\ suit, was accepted, and was married as I stated.
" It now transpires that the lirst time I proposed it was to the one who is now my wife; the proposal that was accepted was to the, sister. My wife changed her mind, and. learning in some way "that her sister did not intend to fix the day for some time, she herself, seeing that I did not know there were two of them, set the day for a time when her sister would be absent on a visit to friends for a few days. So we were married while my real fiancee was away from home, and when she returned there was a scene.
Of course, during the whole time there were some little complications that I did ' not quite understand, but the sister who J is now my wife played her part so well that 1 was never suspicious. Neither mentioned the other, because both were jealous. •■ At -lirst I thought' that, as the two were exactly alike, I would simply make the best of'it, but yesterday J received notice that the sister has sued me for breach of promise, and 1 guess she will win unless I can get the two mixed up I lin some way in the, court-room."
