ROYAL ROMANCE.
A KING IN LOVE: THE HEART. London, May 22. King Manuel, of Portugal, who is only eighteen, is declared to be causing his widowed mother considerable anxiety by falling pasisonately in love with a young girl who is not of royal blood. Acording to two Lisbon papers, usually well-informed, King Manuel since the days of His childhood has always shown a great affection towards a young girl belonging to the highest aristocracy of Portugal, whose mother is a lady-in-waiting'to Queen Amelie. Neither the Queen-mother or the late King Carlos ever regarded it more than a childish fancy, but it appears to have grown into a man's love.
Some days ago Queen Amelie and the | Duke Alfonso were chatting regarding | the King's future, and both agreed that. if a British Princess could be found as a bride it would be the best for the | welfare of the country. , King Manuel overheard the drift of the discussion, and suddenly, to the astonishment of the Queen and the Duke, he declared his love for the young lady in question. " I will marry her or nobody,'' lie said. Queen Amelie and the Duke remonstrated in vain. Firmly the young King reiterated his declaration, and said he would abdicate rather than marry against his choice. It is now understood that the lady-iu-waiting and her daughter will be requested to make a journey abroad.
