Clause .57 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill, providing for payment to any class of workers of a "needs" wage, and also of an "exertion" wage cnine in for rough handling at the Trades and Labor Conference to-day. Several delegates characterised the proposal as incentive to sweating, and predicted very un-: satisfactory results if adopted. Jf was eventually decided to make representations to have the clause deleted and to substitute a clause making it illegal for any employer to introduce the bonus system.
